Arundel Castle

Let me introduce you to Arundel Castle, the second biggest inhabited castle in England (the first being Windsor). And the coolest one I’ve seen to date…although “coolest” doesn’t seem like a good word to describe a castle.

Arundel is just a little ways from my Uncles house, where we were staying in England. AND one of the best parts about this castle (there were so many, but this was high on the list) is that the new film The Young Victoria was filmed there, or at least a bit of it.

The Duke and Duchess of Norfolk live in the Castle 6 months out of the year and the other six months, they open it up to the public. Although, I think that they are still there while it’s open to the public, they just don’t use the whole thing. We were able to meet their assistant butler, which was super interesting. He told us about their traditions at a formal dinner such as, how to eat a banana – slice both ends off, cut the top piece of banana peel off, and then cut little pieces of the banana and eat it with your fork. He also told us that it takes two days to set the table for a formal dinner, because of all the measuring and making sure everything is perfect (literally!).

I loved all the little rooms and hallways through the castle, and could imagine the Dukes grandchildren just loving exploring the castle!

My absolute favorite thing about the Arundel castle was seeing Queen Mary of Scott’s ORIGINAL rosary, prayer book and pearly necklace! It was amazing to see it in person and know that Mary had held those beads and prayed over that little book. Apparently, a girl in the Norfolk’s family had been Mary’s Lady in Waiting and Queen Mary had passed these belongings off to her before she walked up to get beheaded.

Interesting stuff!

Hello!

Sigh.

Back home in Canada, from our EXCELLENT trip to England and Paris…I’m thoroughly refreshed with broadened horizons. But I still don’t want to be home!

Our trip was so incredible. We experienced so much and saw so much of the world. Our days were filled to the brim of sightseeing, and now that we’re home I just can’t believe that we got all that sightseeing in! We say Versailles, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, spent two full days in London, visited family, went to the beach, hiked around the countryside, visited Stonehenge, the HMS Victory…the list goes on!

I’ll be updating the blog with more stories of our travels, and pictures of course!

It’s good to be back…

Abby and Grr (cute name eh?) opened up in February of this year and are an adorable addition to Etsy. And they’ve already made it on the front page! Woo! Do your daily good deed and buy a pretty item from their shop!

Oh my gosh, my Europe trip is just about to start…I’m so excited I have butterflies, can’t sleep, can’t eat. It’s like falling in love all over again. This is the cure for the seven year itch. Just go traveling.

I can’t wait to get there and take tons of pictures, see my family and visit the crazy awesome sites! Wish me luck, see you on the other side!

Just a note: If I’m absent from my blog a bit in the next few weeks, it’s not because I want to be it’s because I’m going to EUROPE! I’m going to be updating the blog as often as I can, but with visiting and sightseeing, it might be a bit tricky. But I do promise to update the blog with huge amounts of pictures when I get back!

The Style of Now

Good Morning America!

Miss Brache is one of the most outstanding shops on Etsy. In more ways than one. They stand out (get it, ‘outstanding’..ha!), they excellent quality, they’re unique. They’re ahead of the pack when it comes to style, not to the point where it’s strange, but the the perfect point of delicious in-style fashion. Her style reminds me of Katy Perry.

Miss Brache is the biache.

Phhh. I have a lame sense of humor I know…I see you rolling those eyes.

So I have the day off work today…unexpectedly. It’s slowed down enough at the tax office that they don’t need me anymore, so I have the week off. I’ve told my new job that I’ll be free this week if they need me, but until they let me know if they do or not, I’m free!

I woke up at 5:30 this morning, not on purpose, but I did get up and got a lot done! It’s amazing what a couple more hours in the day will do for your housecleaning!

Right now I’m sitting on the couch, searching through Etsy, and watching Sara’s Cottage. Have you ever seen that show? It’s amazing. This interior designer is completely re-working a family cottage. And it’s making me drool. I’m going to copy her kitchen I’ve decided. It’s just perfect for the look I’m going for in our re-modeling this summer. Now, to just convince Hubby…

I need to reupholster the kitchen chairs so I’ll be keeping my eye out for some light green plaid or striped fabric. I think we’ll go for white rectangle tiles for the kitchen back splash, white and grey flecked counter-top, grey or light green cupboards (if I can find some that are affordable), and for flooring? Hmm…that’s something I have to think about yet.

Ps: Don’t you just LOVE this Treasury? The linen color is really getting me.

And now for a nap.

But not for real, because my boss wouldn’t be impressed.

I can wish. But not dream, because then I’d need to close my eyes and that would lead to some zzz’s.
